Veterans and Drugs

Memorial Day just past, a day filled with celebrations, barbeques, fireworks and remembering those who serve and have served our great nation. One thing many of us don’t think of when we celebrate this patriotic holiday is the amount of veterans battling addiction. With the ongoing military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, many military personnel have had to face extremely stressful situations. As a result of long and multiple deployments, we are seeing more and more veterans becoming addicted to drugs. Prescription drug abuse by veterans has nearly tripled between 2005 and 2008. With more and more military members being exposed to combat situations, the need for addiction treatment services for our veterans is becoming a priority. In response to the increased numbers of prescription drug abuse cases, the Department of Defense is heavily monitoring the use of prescription drugs by members of the military.

If you or someone you know has a problem with drug addiction or dependence, you should seek help now. Thankfully, there is good help available. Detoxification and behavioral therapy have proven to be effective in treating drug dependence. Addicts are often unable to complete treatment on their own or with family members, so it’s very important to seek the right treatment center. At Seabrook, we customize our treatment plans to individual patient’s needs, so you know the help you’re getting is right for you or a loved one.
