Under-age and Over-dosed

It’s sad to report a story that has been released stating three teens at a High School overdosed on prescription drugs in the middle of the school day, and then had to be taken away to the hospital on stretchers. One classmate gives a brief statement of the shocking sight he had witnessed. “I saw there was an ambulance approaching the school. I don’t know how long they were there for but I did see people being taken out of the school.” Pill popping is an epidemic across the United States; National Institute of Health estimate an average of 2,000 teenagers take prescription drugs that aren’t theirs every day.

The school district is not disclosing any information as far as what kind of drugs the affected students used, only that they weren’t prescribed to them. They took the drugs before school, but it’s unclear where. A local news station close to this high school asked the school district if they plan to use what happened as a chance to raise awareness about taking prescription medications that are not prescribed to them. A spokeswoman said they haven’t thought about it, but the school has done a lot in the past to raise awareness. Awareness and information are two key things to try and prevent occurrences such as this. When individuals are informed before the situation presents itself, it makes it a little easier for someone to turn down the substances.
