New Jersey Governor Pardons Former Drug Addict

Chris Christie, New Jersey’s governor, recently pardoned a former drug user who went straight after decades of drug abuse. Christie said the woman proves his ideal that “no life is disposable.” Apparently she had been doing drugs and abusing them for more than 25 years before she landed in jail. She also stole from stores and wrote bad checks. She is now 59 years old, and a mother of two children.

After getting out of jail in the early years of the 90s, she earned her high school diploma and college degree. Since then, she’s worked as an X-ray technician and stayed straight. The reason that she asked Chris Christie for a pardon is that she wants to retire to Virginia and she thought it would be easier to get a part-time job without a criminal record. Her case is a great example of how a life can be turned around. The best way to do that is through treatment. This is true whether the drug in question is alcohol, heroine, bath salts, painkillers, meth, cocaine, marijuana, or anything other drug.

If you have a problem with alcohol abuse or know someone who does, you can seek help now for yourself or your loved one. Thankfully, there is good help available. Detoxification and behavioral therapy have proven to be effective in treating alcohol dependence. Addicts are often unable to complete treatment on their own or with family members, so it’s very important to seek the right treatment center.
