New Jersey Encourages Parents to Run “Safe Homes”

Verona, New Jersey is launching a website for its 20-year program of encouraging parents to sign pledges to have “safe homes” that don’t provide minors with access to alcohol. The group, Verona Cares, is launching the website with a new logo designed by a Verona High School junior. The main thrust of the program is to have parents sign pledges with two promises: that they will not allow unsupervised drinking parties in their houses, and they will not give alcohol to minors or allow underage drinking or drug use on their property.

Whether the drug in question is alcohol, as Verona Cares focuses on, or meth, cocaine, marijuana, PCP, or prescription pills, the fact is that minors have much greater vulnerability to the hazardous effects of substance abuse. Statistically speaking, the earlier a person begins drinking, the more likely they are to develop alcoholism. If you’re a parent, guardian, or relative, you should do all you can to keep kids away from alcohol. However, the best remedy for children and substance abuse is the same as it is for adults: a good treatment program.

If you or someone you know has a problem with alcoholism, you should seek help now before children become involved. Thankfully, there is good help available. Detoxification and behavioral therapy have proven to be effective in treating alcohol dependence. Addicts are often unable to complete treatment on their own or with family members, so it’s very important to seek the right treatment center. At Seabrook, we customize our treatment plans to individual patient’s needs, so you know the help you’re getting is right for you or a loved one. Seabrook has rehabilitation centers in New Jersey (NJ), Pennsylvania (PA), and an outpatient center in New York (NY). Contact Seabrook today for any questions about alcohol, addiction, and treatment.
