Making a Change

Blog post by: Alumni Relations Specialist

For many people, the biggest step toward recovery is deciding to make a change. When I was in early recovery, I was told that I had to change one thing, EVERYTHING! How scary, but how true this statement was. Little by little this became reality; I changed people, places and things. Then my way of thinking, acting and reacting.  And then I had to change my coping skills! Sound easy? NO, but change doesn’t happen all at once. The best way to learn new coping skills is to involve other people! Whether you are eating healthier, or trying to exercise more regularly,  support from other people is very helpful! Just like the support you get from the meetings. If you surround yourself with good role models you will learn a lot and get the support you need. Change is uncomfortable but in the end change saved my life. So when you feel like you can no longer go on, just consider making a change.
