Celebs We Lost Due to Drugs or Alcohol in 2014

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately 41,000 people die of an overdose each year. These people are husbands, wives, daughters, brothers, friends, or even celebrities.

When a celebrity admits he or she has a drug or alcohol problem, or worse, overdoses and dies because of that problem, the public is usually shocked and saddened. Their fans wonder how someone with so much money, fame and power could get involved with something like drugs or alcohol. But, what most people forget is that addiction is a disease that can affect anyone. No amount of fame can protect someone from that.

In 2014, we lost a few celebs due to drug or alcohol abuse.

Philip Seymour Hoffman– The Oscar winning actor died of an accidental overdose in his New York apartment in February 2014. Hoffman previously entered rehab and began on the road to recovery, but relapsed and sadly overdosed.

Peaches Geldof– The 25-year-old television presenter/model was found dead in her home in April of 2014. After being clean for 3 years, she relapsed and started using heroin again. Her cause of death was ruled as a heroin overdose. Geodolf’s mother, Paula Yates, had also accidentally overdosed in 2000.

Elizabeth Pena– The Modern Family actress passed away in October 2014 from cirrhosis of the liver due to years of alcohol abuse. The cirrhosis caused internal bleeding, leading to her death.

These celebrity lives lost, in addition to thousands of other lives, are all tragic. Addiction is a deadly disease and should be treated that way.
