Albuquerque mother said she’s seen negative effects of drug addiction firsthand

An Albuquerque mother said she’s seen negative effects of drug addiction firsthand, and is warning local teens about the dangerous of heroin. In 2009, her then 19-year-old was bright-eyed and smiling. Daughter was clean and sober. Today at age 22, she is in jail. She’s accused of selling stolen designer clothing and sunglasses to fuel her heroin addiction. This mother feels New Mexico isn’t doing enough to help those struggling with drugs.

She is now trying to create the change she wants to see. She’s spoken about her daughter’s experience at three Albuquerque high schools, and is asking the state to step up treatment options for addicts. Her family can’t afford to put her in a private rehabilitation clinic, where even the least expensive centers can run $30,000 a month.

Seabrook follows the 12 step program and understands that patients are often coming from a painful intervention or other form of counseling and have fully accredited counselors on staff to help make the transition easier.
