New Jersey Dirty Drug Cop Sentenced to 10 Years
A judge has recently sentenced a convicted dirty cop from Camden, New Jersey to 10 years of prison after he was convicted of drug-related corruption. The police officer was found guilty of stealing drugs and cash from police and criminals, perjury in front of a grand jury, and planting evidence in police investigations. The officer had been a member of an elite anti-drug squad before his disgrace and conviction. Three other members of the drug squad face sentencing, sources say. The presiding judge said that the dirty cops had “had shattered the community trust” in the police.
This is just another high-profile case that shows that the allure of crime that surrounds the drug trade can be very difficult to resist. Whether the drug in question is cocaine, meth, heroin, marijuana, PCP, prescription pills, or anything else, the rewards can turn good people bad—until the inevitable consequences arrive. As the saying says, crime doesn’t pay, especially not in the long-term. And while people use drugs illicitly there will always be an illegal drug trade. The best remedy remains what it’s always been: a good treatment plan in a caring facility.
