Russell Brand Speaks About Drug Addiction

British comedian and actor Russell Brand has had quite a history with substance abuse and addictions. Brand is a former heroin addict, a former sex addict, and a recovering alcoholic. He struggled with his addictions for years but has abstained from drug use since 2002 and is now a patron of the addiction charity Focus 12. Brand regularly attends AA and NA meetingsand he credits his practice of meditation as a significant factor in his recovery from drug addiction. When it comes to battling addiction, Brand has been there and done that—and he now puts a significant effort towards helping others steer away from the path that he went down.

Brand recently took his efforts to the British government when he addressed the House of Commons Home Affairs Committee in London. He encouraged the committee that addicts should be treated with love and compassion and not as criminals. Brand believes that the illness calls for more abstinence-based recovery as opposed to writing people off with a methadone prescription and pushing them out the door. Overcrowding in rehab facilities is a common issue across the world today and it’s definitely a topic of debate and discussion in governments.

When people aren’t admitted to rehab programs or don’t take them seriously, their drug and/or alcohol problem tends to just get worse once they’re back on their own—and this is why committing to the rehabilitation is such a crucial step in the recovery process. Finding the right place for this treatment is extremely important because this is where you will learn and practice your new lifestyle. Seabrook House is a great option because individually inspired treatment programs are offered to patients based on their unique needs, history, health, and interests. Many people have successfully recovered from addiction after inpatient treatment at Seabrook House because they were able to relate to their program and they learned ways to fight cravings and stay sober once their rehabilitation stint was over. Seabrook House has locations in New Jersey (NJ), Pennsylvania (PA) and an outpatient office in New York (NY). Contact Seabrook House today at 1.800.761.7575 to find out ways for you to beat your addiction!
