Alcoholism Therapy: Couples

Many people today struggle with alcoholism. It’s a disease that has been around for generations and it has ruined people’s personal lives, professional relationships, financial stability, and most importantly physical health. If you or a loved one consistently has a strong urge to drink, once they start to drink it’s hard for them to stop drinking, they experience withdrawal symptoms when they don’t drink, or their tolerance for alcohol is at an extremely high level, then they most likely suffer from alcoholism and treatment should be the next step. There are a few different ways to attack alcohol addiction. Depending on the significance of the addiction, medically supervised alcohol detoxification is the most logical first step. The next step is rehabilitation. Rehab programs after detox are often required or highly suggested because these programs are extremely helpful in the recovery process because of how the treatments and therapies learned in rehab can be used once the rehab stint is over.

Alcohol treatment can be effective for some when couples therapy is included in the process. Couples therapy is a way for the addicted spouse to become aware of how their issue has affected their life and their relationship. This approach definitely combines alcoholism recovery with relationship recovery, and these two often go hand in hand and have a direct effect on each other. The best alcohol recovery programs provide a combination of therapies and other services to meet the needs of the individual patient, which are shaped by such issues as age, race, culture, sexual orientation, gender, pregnancy, parenting, housing, and employment, as well as physical and sexual abuse.

Seabrook House is a drug rehab and alcoholism detox treatment center that offers individually inspired programs that provide the patient with the unique combination of therapies and treatments that suit their needs and personal history. All Seabrook House programs are grounded in the Twelve Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA). The Seabrook House Model® of treatment includes a multifaceted medical approach to alcohol and other drugs including opiate detoxification, gender-specific therapy with special emphasis on relapse prevention, and family intervention services. Seabrook House has treatment centers in New Jersey (NJ) and Pennsylvania (PA) with an outpatient office in New York (NY).
