Drugs Inc. Series: Pill Nation

In today’s society the influence and popularity of television programming is at an all time high. People watch more TV than ever before, and some of the programs offered are extremely educational and beneficial. National Geographic Channel offers all kind of unique and educational programming, but one show in particular has gotten an extreme response due to the nature of the show—Drugs Inc. Drugs Inc profiles a multibillion-dollar industry that fuels crime and violence like no other substance on the planet. Each drug has its own unique origin and abuse pattern, but the outcome of addiction to any drug typically leads to the same rock-bottom lifestyle. While some users sacrifice their lives to an addiction they can’t escape, others find drugs to be their only saving grace from physical or emotional pain almost impossible to overcome. The series goes in depth by following actual drug abusers, dealers, and families involved with addiction to drugs.

Each episode focuses on real people and real world situations involving a certain drug. It’s very shocking, educational, and inspirational to see how these drugs affect our society and ruin individual’s lives. The pill nation episode explores the crisis that prescription pain medications have brought upon the American society. These drugs are abused by both the rich and poor, each resulting in an extreme addiction that can be very difficult to kick. Known as ‘hillbilly heroin’, pills like OxyContin, Percocet, Codeine, Morphine, Hydrocodone and Vicodin are being illegally distributed and abused all over the country. This episode follows pill abusers and it sheds light on what these drugs can do to an individual.

It’s important for people to understand the dangers of the drug world, and the show Drugs Inc. has done an excellent job in depicting the real world of drugs. Some of the episodes are shocking and graphic given the nature of drug abuse and the dangers of the drug industry, but for drug abusers to witness how scary the drug world can get is an effective way to get them to stop and seek professional help for their addiction. When it comes to alcoholism and drug abuse, it’s very unlikely that you can overcome these addictions on your own. There is excellent treatment for alcoholism and drug addiction today, and Seabrook House offers extremely high quality treatment and recovery programs.
