Safe Gifts for Addicts

It’s officially the holiday season, and it’s that time of year where gift giving is very common. But if there’s an addict in your family and you don’t know what kind of gift would be safe for them to have, then here’s a list of things that can help your search:

- Certificates for healthy meals that you will make so they can’t re-sell any store vouchers.

- An appointment with a Medical Doctor.

- An appointment for a therapeutic massage.

- A gift made by a child in the Family.

- A gift of travel for a specific date – as they may no longer be able to drive or even own a car.

- A self help book that may encourage them to change their ways.

- An appointment with an Addiction Counselor that they can avail of when they are ready.

- A great big hug.

The most important aspect of these gifts is that they can’t be sold for money and then the addict in turn uses the money to feed their addiction. They may not be the flashiest or most desirable gifts out there, but it’s the thought that counts and the effort that matters. In addition to the gifts listed above, one of the greatest gifts that you can give an addict is the attention and concern for the problem. It can be frustrating and difficult to try and reach out to an addict in order to get them help, but sometimes persistence is the key and all it takes is that one time where the light bulb goes off in their head and they realize that they need help with their addiction.

If you or a loved one are ready for treatment, need help with an intervention, or just simply have a question about addiction, contact Seabrook House today. Seabrook House is an internationally recognized private and exclusive inpatient drug rehab and alcoholism detoxification treatment center who has achieved an elite CARF accreditation status, ensuring that our rehab patients receive the highest quality treatment. Seabrook House employs highly credentialed professionals in the addiction field, whose specialties encompass every area of medical, clinical, psychological and spiritual treatment of the disease of addiction. If there’s an addict in your life, make sure during this holiday season that you give them safe gifts, and more importantly help make sure that they begin their recovery from addiction!
