Are You An Undergrad Who Drinks Heavily?

If you answered yes to this question, you might be at a higher risk for future alcohol related problems then you might realize. Of course, college is well known for experimenting, getting your feet wet, living on your own, and making bad decisions while you still can. No article or study is going to stop graduating high school seniors from enrolling in college and going wild for a few years while they still can. But the sad reality is that even though most college students reduce their drinking levels once they have graduated, there are still a percentage of college grads who continue to binge drink in a dangerous manner after graduating.

In a national survey of undergraduates, roughly six percent met criteria for current alcohol dependence (AD), and approximately 31 percent met criteria for current alcohol abuse. While many undergraduates mature out of heavy alcohol use after graduation, a minority will continue to abuse alcohol and be at risk for alcohol-related problems. This study investigated which undergraduates are most likely to engage in high-risk drinking, using alcohol-use disorder (AUD) criteria and binge-drinking endorsement as identifiers. If you’re a college student in the Boston, Massachusetts (MA) area and you drink to make things more fun, you’re impulsive, and you have a history of aggressive behavior, then you may want to monitor your drinking because people these personality traits are the most common to continue heavy drinking after college which will subsequently lead to future alcohol problems.

If you’re a college student in the Boston, Massachusetts (MA) area and you think that you already have a drinking problem, then contact Seabrook House for help. Seabrook House is an internationally recognized private and exclusive inpatient drug rehab and alcoholism detoxification treatment center.
