The Dangers of Meth Addiction

Posted by admin Categories: Choosing a Rehab Facility, Featured Drugs, Intervention, Recovery & Rehabilitation, Support

Do you or someone you know struggle with addiction to Methamphetamines? If you are unsure or have answered yes to this question, the Seabrook House is here to help.  Methamphetamine addiction is extraordinarily costly and can ruin relationships with friends, colleagues, and those that care the most, family.

Once considered a small time drug, Methamphetamine (known as Meth) use is becoming a growing problem in many cities across America.   And it isn’t prevalent lust in areas like New York or Miami, but rather in suburban and rural locations including the the Midwest, Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, Ohio, and Nebraska.  Those who are addicted to Meth find great difficulty in kicking the habit.  As is the case with addiction, it can destroy the very fabric on which family and friendships are built.  As found on our Drug Information page located under the Resources tab, Methamphetamine is a very addictive stimulant drug that affects the central nervous system and can result in increased wakefulness and physical activity, decreased appetite, increased respiration, rapid heart rate, irregular heartbeat, increased blood pressure, and hyperthermia in the short term.  Long term use can result in severe dental problems, anxiety, confusion, insomnia, mood disturbances, and violent behavior.  Many psychological issues also arise including paranoia, visual and auditory hallucinations, and delusions (bugs crawling under your skin, etc.).

Once addicted to Methamphetamine, the effects can be life altering if not deadly.  Those who struggle with Meth addiction often wait before reaching out for help.  Know that it is never too late to get help.  That is why we here at Seabrook House utilize what is known as the Matrix Model, which is a comprehensive treatment program that combines behavioral therapy, family education, individual counseling, 12-Step support, drug testing, and encouragement for nondrug-related activities, which have been shown to be effective in the fight against Methamphetamine addiction.

Kicking the habit of Methamphetamine use can be a daunting task, but such a task is made easier through the use of Seabrook House’s support.  If you or someone you know struggle with Methamphetamine addiction, Take the first step toward regaining freedom.  A healthy and fulfilling life awaits and we here at the Seabrook House have the staff and resources necessary to get you or the one you love back on track.
