Steroid Addiction | Seabrook Therapy for Steroid Abuse

Posted by admin Categories: Featured Drugs, Recovery & Rehabilitation Tags: CARF, detox, drug addiction, family interventions, Los Angeles, steroid addiction, steroids, substance abuse treatment
Steroids can be legally prescribed to treat health conditions, but they can also be abused. Sometimes people abuse Anabolic-Androgenic Steroids to enhance athletic performance or to improve physical appearance. The use of steroids happens in cycles of weeks or months and is interrupted by shorter resting periods. They can also be combined with several different types of steroids. This is referred to as “stacking.” The long-term effects can affect mood and behavior substantially.Reports suggest that continued long term use or abuse of steroids may contribute to psychiatric dysfunction. Anabolic steroids may lead to aggression and extreme mood swings that include manic like symptoms. Users my also exhibit paranoid jealousy, extreme irritability, delusions, and impaired judgment stemming from feelings of invincibility. Some of the most dangerous health problems that steroids can cause are liver damage, jaundice (yellowish pigmentation of skin, tissues, and body fluids), fluid retention, high blood pressure, increases in LDL (bad cholesterol), and decreases in HDL (good cholesterol).

Professional sports and even college sports have seen widespread abuse of steroids for decades.  They are used to speed up recovery times after workouts but addiction drives them to become very damaging to the athlete and organization.  Major League Baseball players have even been brought before federal grand juries in steroid abuse and dealing investigations. All 50 states and most division 1 college sports programs have experienced incidents with their athletes and steroid abuse at one point or another.  From NYC to LA, Washington DC to Colorado, Oregon to Idaho, and Florida to Nebraska, steroids remain a widely abused substance in a variety of sports and non-sports environments.  This addiction can be treated and treatment works!

Withdrawal symptoms can be very detrimental for steroid addicts and must be managed by certified professionals. One of the worst is depression, which can lead to suicide attempts. Seabrook House can help with these withdrawal symptoms and provide the supportive therapy and education needed to conquer this steroid withdrawal. Come visit us at our main rehab facility in Bridgeton, NJ to find out more about how we can help.
